Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zach Grimm, Owner of Grimm Bookkeeping, located in Thornton, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a bookkeeper who also offers a range of financial services to a wide range of businesses. My services include onboarding and training in QuickBooks Online, diagnostic review, bookkeeping with finical reporting, cleanup, and payroll.

Tell us about yourself

I'll always remember being in college and feeling like I was spending all this money to be in a classroom when I could instead be working on building something BIG. True entrepreneurship was completely new to me, so after doing some research, I just "jumped in," registered the business, started marketing and began building. Every day is a new learning experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As cheesy as it sounds, my biggest accomplishment was simply starting my business. I see so many people every day with incredible ideas and even more incredible products, and they aren't doing anything with it. I think a lot of it comes from a lack of not knowing how, but every time I see someone with one of those ideas, I make sure to encourage them to make the next step forward. No feeling compares to that of being able to call yourself an entrepreneur.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Sometimes it feels like, as a business owner, we want to try and be the best at everything, and that is something a mentor of mine taught me to stop doing very early on. When we start, we think we need to be the best at sales and have the best website, the best business name, and the best marketing scheme; however, that's just not the case. Simply focus on one thing at a time, and the rest will come. Remember that Rome was not built in a day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First and foremost, just go out and do it! Sometimes the hardest part of the race is simply starting it. If you think you have a great business idea, the only way you will know is by trying. Next, I would encourage people to remember that building a business isn't a race, nor is it a sprint--it's a marathon. Finally, I always encourage people to not only read a lot of books but also compound what they learn into their daily life. Some of my favorite titles include The Go-Giver, Switch on your Brain, The Magic of Thinking Big, Born to Win, and 7 Strategies for Health & Happiness.
