What's your business, and who are your customers?
GRILLKILT makes premium, highly-functional, game-changing grilling aprons. We have sold our products to an enthusiastic grilling community in all 50 states.
Tell us about yourself
As a grilling enthusiast, I knew I needed an apron, but nothing was available that looked cool, had the functionality of outdoor gear, and over-achieved....so I set out to build a better grilling apron. I launched this business as a passion project, which has turned into a full-time, exciting job. I am inspired by the feedback and photographs from my customers because they see the benefits of my invention, which makes me happy. They also needed a better grilling apron, and GRILLKILT could provide them with a better grilling experience.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
GRILLKILT continues to grow, evolve, and innovate. Getting up and running so we can continue to build upon these ideas is the greatest accomplishment. Validation in Men's Journal, Forbes, and Charleston Magazine has helped fuel my inspiration.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Time management is a constant challenge. Sometimes it is difficult to see the forest for the trees, as they say. Running a small, growing business demands the art of wearing many hats; some are more fun to wear than others.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You have to be passionate about the product or business that you are in.
- You have to be able to envision at least a 1, 3, and 5-year plan for your business and know that it will never be easy.
- Choose business partners very carefully. Sometimes working alone may be a better strategy.
