Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in branding and marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Kelso, Owner of Green Tulip Design LLC., located in Argyle, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Green Tulip Design offers website design, SEO, and digital marketing services to businesses in various industries, with a larger focus on the self-storage industry. We design and build beautiful websites with SEO as a driving factor. A website can't produce leads and customers if no one is able to find it.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in the design and marketing industry for about 15 years. At first, I was taking on outside projects in addition to my full-time position as a design and programming lead. When the company I was working for laid off the entire staff, I decided to focus on growing my freelance work into a business. I love working with companies to create websites that truly represent the quality of the products and services they offer and be able to get that out to the world. The idea that I am helping others grow their businesses and achieve their dreams through marketing lights me up every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing the results my clients are getting from the efforts Green Tulip Design has put in to drive their business forward.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is managing time between fulfillment, operations, and staff. Systems have become key!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you're thinking about starting or growing a business, do it! But be prepared; it's not always easy, but keep pushing forward.

  1. Obviously, I'm going to suggest you make an investment in your website; it usually is the first impression customers have of your business. It should be beautiful, intuitive, and helpful. It should also produce traffic and leads. SEO and digital marketing are going to be vital for this.
  2. Create systems for everything. They don't have to be perfect, and you can refine them as you improve them. They will save you a ton of time and make it easier to delegate at some point.
  3. Always think from your customer's point of view when marketing. Think about what they care about; it's not always the same thing as what you care about.
