Enhancing the Success of Entrepreneurs - Gray Coaching

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Davis, Owner of Gray Coaching LLC, located in Centennial, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Gray Coaching works with entrepreneurs and business leaders. We focus on helping others realize their dreams. The entrepreneurs I work with are focussed and driven to become highly profitable while maintaining balance in their lives. The leaders I coach come to me so that they can build better teams and, hit the objectives more easily, become more strategic and intentional. The productivity workshops and courses give the attendees the tools they need to achieve more in less time with less effort, staying focussed on what really matters and being confident enough to say no to what doesn't.

Tell us about yourself

Before becoming a coach, I had held many senior leadership positions. I had opened a few of my own businesses, some successful and others not. I realized that what I really love to do is to help others build their dreams. So I became a certified coach and started working with accelerators to help entrepreneurs become highly profitable.

I'm an award-winning, internationally certified entrepreneur, leadership and productivity coach, and facilitator. As a business owner, wife and mom, I believe there is a way to build your business to suit your life, not the other way around. Originally from South Africa, I now live in the USA with my family. I've been coaching for the past decade and have run my own practice since 2019.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been so fortunate to work with more than two hundred clients across a full spectrum of industries over the last decade. Many of my clients come back to me after we have worked together to work on other things. I often get referrals from my clients, letting me know they found our time together valuable.

My longest-standing client has been with me for the past 6 years. When we first started working together, he was battling to pay his rent for some months. This year, he is set to purchase $40 million (USD) in rough stock to manufacture and sell. By the middle of this year, he was well ahead of his timeline to reach this goal.

In early 2022, I was awarded Top Entrepreneurial Coach by the Coach Foundation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner, there's a lot for one person to do. I have had to find a great network of providers that I trust to outsource things to that I am not good at or shouldn't be doing. Starting out, this was harder to do due to limited cash flow. I brought on great systems to help manage and automate as much as possible.

Finding my first few clients was another challenge. I believe in the work I do and just needed a few people to trust me to do the same for them. Once I got them on board, the fun began.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you do something you are truly passionate about. Do what you know.
  2. Ask for help. It's hard to do things alone. Find a great coach or mentor to help you get things going, hold you accountable, and bounce ideas around.
  3. Don't cut corners. Build your business with the end in mind. It's challenging to start with limited cash, but you need to do the best you can.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Not everyone will get you. Find the people that do and stick with them. Align your business to your values and stick to your guns. Be open to feedback, but true to yourself.
