Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gorett Reis, a career and life coach, based in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a career and life coach for fed-up professionals. They are sick and tired of staying the same and want to make an impact in their career, business, or life.

My clients, who range from actors to executives, are smart and committed and know with a little help, they can get "back on track" or find a new path. Typically, they have lost touch with what brings them joy. They have a history of unrelenting standards or putting other people's needs before their own. They feel overcommitted and overwhelmed, which manifests in procrastination, unhealthy habits, a hard time saying no, and burnout. They also want to contribute in a bigger way and feel their current situation doesn't allow them to.

Working together, they develop the strength to inner achieve as opposed to outer or overachieve, and this inner achievement results in great success without the stress.

Tell us about yourself

I became a coach seven years ago when I took some time to figure out a new direction for myself. I felt dissatisfied and burnt out with classroom teaching and wanted to find what brought me joy. It was a eureka moment when I heard my internal voice say, "life coach." From then on, I took on the identity -and training- and never looked back. Helping others through career and life coaching, and seeing their results, drives me every day. I love making a difference in my clients' lives, and I love the difference they make even more.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Investing in myself and my business training as much as I did.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping faith in yourself and the process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in yourself and your business.
  2. Connect and cultivate relationships.
  3. Create systems, structures, and teams to support your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Entrepreneurship is not for the "faint of heart." It requires you to dive deep into yourself and see what you are made of. Some say it's a spiritual journey that way. If it's something you are feeling called or compelled to do, then you most likely have a gift or gifts that wants to be shared.
