Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bart Adlam, co-owner of GOOD PLANeT, located in New York, NY.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

GOOD PLANeT offers a variety of delicious plant-based cheeses.  We strive to make it easy for consumers to experience the joy of cheese with plant based offerings that are good for you and good for the planet.

Tell us about yourself

I have been selling and marketing food products for several decades now.  I like working on products that everyone can relate to and enjoy.  I get a lot of joy from building, building a great team, building great products, and in the end, building a great business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm part owner, having joined our founder, David Israel, in 2020. Aside from putting together an all-star team, I'm most proud of the strong innovation we're bringing to market.  Plant-based cheese is significantly underdeloped vs. categories such as milk and meat, and this mainly due to the lack of quality and variety.  Our most recent  innovations, plant-based snackable cheese wedges and plant-based, naturally smoked cheese wheels, give consumers a chance to do something better for them and the enviroment without giving up the joy of eating cheese.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making choices is tough in general, and in start-up when anything is possible, but resources are very limited; it's tougher still.  That said, I believe that the focus you can achieve by making choices is one of the most powerful things one can bring as a leader of any business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Be resilient, as there will be many days when it's tough to see a path to success

2) Focus.  Your limited resources will go much further if they are against fewer, bigger initiatives.

3) Be nimble.  This is where you truly have an advantage vs. larger competitors.  Don't change for change's sake, but do pivot when new information identifies risk or opportunity.
