Creative Design for Businesses That Do Good - Angela Sealy

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angela Sealy, Founder and Owner of Good Karma Works, located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm the founder of Good Karma Works, a Barcelona-based boutique web design and branding agency working primarily with wellness entrepreneurs and businesses that do good. We work with a variety of small business owners who have mostly been in business for 3-5 years and are looking to up-level their online presence. Whether they are therapists, yoga teachers, chefs, coaches, or artists, we don't discriminate as long as our values are aligned.

Tell us about yourself

From my previous experience as a yoga teacher and massage therapist, I know firsthand the challenges of creating a wellness business from scratch, which is ultimately why I launched my business in 2020. Together with a team of fierce female creatives, we help ease the frustration around starting a business by helping our clients to build a lasting brand and website they feel confident about so they can focus on what they do best.

I believe that building a brand and a website that converts should be a fun and creative journey, and I know it's possible! I am driven to empower entrepreneurs to turn their business vision into a reality. I do what I do because I wholeheartedly believe that even if your business is built around serving others, it doesn't mean that you don't deserve the lifestyle you want to live.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making it to 3 years in business and not yet hitting burnout, and still working on building the sustainable lifestyle I want.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Boundaries with clients, especially if they are friends. Over time, I've learned to really be clear and communicate boundaries upfront and then also stick to them. In the end, it's the best thing for myself and my clients to keep the momentum and creative process going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's not as shiny as it might seem on IG - there is a lot of work, sweat, and tears to working for yourself and running your own business.
  2. You can't do it alone - figure out what you are good at and/or like doing, and for the rest, hire out or ask for help when you get to that point in revenue.
  3. Set aside money for expenses and a rainy day - set up buckets or even separate accounts so that when you do receive revenue, a certain % goes towards taxes, operating expenses, profit, etc. I just learned to do this, and it's been so helpful in covering overhead costs and understanding my budget.
