Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amanda Signorelli, Co-Owner of Golden Steer Steaks, LLC., located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am co-owner of the Golden Steer, which includes a restaurant and an eCommerce company. Our customers are food lovers from across the US who love to dine, love to cook, and love a great story. We serve over 100,000 patrons a year, and we ship out thousands of boxes coast to coast.
Tell us about yourself
I began my career as a consultant, saw the impact of technology then jumped into the startup world. Years later, after running a media company in Chicago, I was asked to step in and take over my family business, the oldest steakhouse in Las Vegas. I saw it as an opportunity to take what I learned in the tech space and apply it to an incredibly beloved brand. The result is something that has never been in hospitality, and creating novel connections, challenging the status quo, and doing things differently drives me every day to push further.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As business owners, we all struggled during COVID to survive. We were fortunate and lucky enough to come out of that time not only alive but also stronger than ever before. Today, we have doubled the business and the team. I couldn't be more proud of how we transformed the brand and the impact it has had on the enterprise.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The mental and emotional toll. Owning a business is a rollercoaster; at the end of the day, everything comes down to you. Your energy, your passion, and your ideas will steer the ship, but that requires an immense amount of focus, confidence, drive, and inner peace. Otherwise, you're throwing your team into stormy waves. Finding that center and pushing away my insecurities has been and will always be the most challenging for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do the math; how will you make a profit? Not revenue, profit.
- Press go before you're ready. Your first product won't be amazing, nor your second, but if you keep iterating, you'll find something truly magical, so create and get feedback FAST.
- Feedback is a gift; get as much as you can, but don't assume it's all equally valuable or right. It's your job to parse through, weigh it and utilize it accordingly. You never know what conversations with customers or competitors will reveal.
