What's your business, and who are your customers?
Goho is a boutique communications agency. We understand how to grow your business through effective communication. Be it a jam-packed Influencer event, banging press coverage, superb social content, creating a kick-ass marketing strategy, or building good old-fashioned direct relationships with your local customers. We've got you covered. We work with one-man and woman bands to multi-national global mega brands. No one is just a number to us. They're all part of the Goho family.
Tell us about yourself
I started Goho after becoming disheartened by the way the industry was run. Massive agencies would put their focus more on the hours billed and profit margins rather than creative output and ROI for a client. I recognised there was an opportunity to give brands top-quality marketing and comms support, with excellent customer service, for a fraction of the price they were paying and still make money. I mean, obviously, I want to be profitable and make money, but I don't need to rip people off in the process.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is not only surviving Covid but coming out stronger on the other side. We lost 85% of our revenue when Co vid hit, but that didn't stop me. I pivoted quickly, re-trained my team, and got on with it. I didn't let even one person go despite getting no Government support.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There is immense pressure to look after your clients and your people too. My brand is so important to me, and I want to make sure that everyone gets the service and experience they deserve. Also, my team gets the support and work-life balance they need to thrive. It's a tough challenge, but I'm managing it, just about!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make a robust plan and stick to it, don't let people tell you they know better or get you to change to a different way of doing things you're not happy with. Stay strong.
- On the flip side to that, be aware and open to feedback. Pivoting where needed and accepting that you're not always right.
- Go with your gut.
