Marketing & Coworking Community for Solopreneurs - GoGoDone

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather Chavin, founder and owner of GoGoDone Marketing for Solopreneurs, located in Eugene, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Solopreneurs must do their own work AND their own marketing. We will never have time to "do it all when it comes to marketing." Smart strategy and ruthless prioritization are key. Add in coaching, accountability, and community, and you have GoGoDone.

We hold each other accountable for posting content consistently - and we give each other a boost with the algorithm. We have regular masterminds and education sessions. If you get stuck, the coaches are there to be sure you know your BEST next step for marketing.

Tell us about yourself

Whether it is a small budget or no budget, I have worked as a marketing department of one for over 15 years. The upside to being a jack-of-all-trades is it makes you great at strategy. Solopreneurs get a raw deal. They are some of the most dedicated, values-centered business people out there. Yet we're overshadowed by big companies' marketing budgets. This is why I brought together a community of solopreneurs who want to be their own boss and do great work. Together we boost each other's content, so we can get our messages seen and heard.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner of a solopreneur marketing community, I succeed when my community members succeed. So, besides striking out on my own almost three years ago, my biggest accomplishment is the continued growth and success of the businesses of the GoGoDone community members. We're all values-driven entrepreneurs, so it's really uplifting to watch each other succeed and have someone on the journey with us.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When you're a solopreneur, your business is an expression of yourself. I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster! "It's not personal, it's just business" does NOT apply. Dealing with rejection or indifference towards your business creates heartache. No one wants to spend time on their blog or social media posts just to have zero comments and zero likes. The GoGoDone community definitely helps with that as we boost each other's content and get to skip the discomfort of no one responding to our content (not to mention benefit from the increased distribution). The structure of our community came directly from my own frustration with this challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have clarity on your target market and be prepared to niche down, if not from the start, then not long after you're on your feet. You must be the BEST in your niche. Who were you made to serve?
  2. Once you know who you're made to serve, always listen and talk to them. Change happens faster than ever - what they need from you may change just as fast. Be on the journey with them to keep that expert status.
  3. Strategy only comes after your target market and customer listening. You can't build a strategy if you don't know where your people are and what they need.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't go through it alone. When we travel the solopreneur path together, we learn from each other, have others to lean on for help and advice, and best of all - we have someone to celebrate the wins with!
