Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fine arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason van Dyk, co-founder of God's fingerprints, located in Frederick, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business sells art prints inspired by the Bible. My wife and I didn't grow up as Christians, but we both had our lives transformed when we started reading the Bible in college. Our mission is to declare the truth that we read through artwork. Our customers are people who are people who appreciate faith and creativity and want to gift it or display it in their home.

Tell us about yourself

My wife and I started creating artwork as a passion project. We shared it on Instagram, and people started asking for prints. We were both working full-time jobs at the time, but once we launched, things grew quickly. We now do it full-time and have a small team to help. The thing that motivates me each day is knowing that our work is making a difference in people's lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as a business owner is all the positive reviews. We recently surpassed 10,000 5-star reviews for our prints. It's deeply meaningful to know that our artwork is having an impact. Some of the stories literally bring tears to our eyes!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is finding other businesses that care about your customers as much as you do. As a business owner, you inevitably have to outsource some aspects of your business (such as the shipping or delivery of your products). When things go wrong, it's hard. We've learned that even when it's out of our control, though, we still take ownership of the problem. We've gotten better at finding services that value our customers more, but nobody will ever care about your customers experience as much as you do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Focus on solving a problem, bring as much value to your audience as possible, and take prayerful risks to make it happen.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There's never been a better time in history to run and grow a business that serves others.
