Hey, we're Brewers Eye.
Tell us all about your business...
We're a beer community and app. We're for everyone who works in the beer business or enjoys beer.
What's your background and motivation to get into the solopreneur life?
I overheard a 'beer lover' state they would not drink a beer because of its rating on Untappd at one of my favourite taprooms - this should not happen, EVER. For the past 10 years the culture of the beer industry has been set to openly criticise beers and be rewarded with badges for doing it. Brewers Eye will change the culture of the past 10 years and create a new community focused on supporting local, providing relevant feedback on beers and enjoying beer again.
As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?
Beer businesses not having to worry or waste time (in particular breweries) competing in a popularity contest. They should have equal opportunities to market themselves to a beer universe, and beer lovers exploring beer again without being told what is good and what is not.
What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a business today?
Be passionate. Do it to genuinely make a change for the better. Be prepared to live for your business.
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly day in day out to help grow your business then what would it be?
Remind yourself why you started and why you are doing what you love.
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
It's difficult, but put random dates in the calendar where no matter what you will not look at your business or anything to do with the business.
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and why?
To be honest, every person who sets up a business - whether it fails or succeeds, whether it is a small business or a huge multi-national. Everyone who creates their own business are my favourite entrepreneurs and I have the same respect for them all. There are some obvious do's and do not's, but I would say do it yourself and try not to follow anybody else.
For anyone looking to start a business today, what would be the number one bit of advice you'd give them?
Surround yourself with people who care about the reason why you exist - you don't have to like them, but you must be aligned on what you are trying to do and why you are doing it.
