Motivating People to Reach Their Full Potential - Go Patty

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patricia Barnes, Founder of Go Patty LLC, located in Baltimore, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a personal development coach. My customers are trailblazers who need the motivation to accomplish their goals and dreams. They’re rare gems who have a great sense of wanting more in life but in their inner circle don’t have much support or examples of what success looks like. They need encouragement and strategies to keep going despite setbacks, fears, and insecurities.

Tell us about yourself

My business was birthed because of what I endured to become a registered nurse and now the founder of Go Patty LLC. When you’re the first person in your immediate family to go to college, you have to overcome many challenges, fears, and insecurities. You must be willing to do whatever it takes to become successful and evolve your mindset. I always had a gift that others would listen to my advice mainly because I practice what I teach. Also, my mindset is positive that I will win no matter what comes my way. Life is the biggest teacher. I love to teach. I have developed essential skills and strategies to become successful. My motives are simple: help others who share similar stories as myself, guide them, support them, and ensure they win in life. I love to see people win.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is my ability to be coachable. You need a coach. Sometimes, we believe we know everything, or due to pride or embarrassment don’t listen when others who want the best for us try to correct us or share valuable information. It takes wisdom to humble yourself to be successful, especially if your goal is to be like the person giving you advice.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is overcoming your self-limiting beliefs. You can’t take things personally in business and must get out your own way. Who I am as an employee is not the same person I am as an entrepreneur. I have to make adjustments to thrive in business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start where you are. In 10 years, you will look back and be thankful you figured things out along the way. Don’t try to wait until things are perfect. Start now.
  2. You need a team and community. Introverts, we have to realize that you can’t do everything by yourself to scale a business. Work on your interpersonal skills and create your dream team and supportive community. There are people waiting to cheer you on and help you accomplish your dreams and goals.
  3. Start with one thing at a time. Focus on your main goal and what will make you the most money. Learn how to market and sell. If you’re not making money, then you don’t have a business. Once you master one business, work on the next project. Keep going and evolve with time. Success isn’t built overnight; it truly takes years. You got what it takes! Let’s go win, win, and WIN!!!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I created a compilation book called Get Up! God’s not done with you yet to encourage those on their journey to success. Life will hit you hard with personal trials and tribulations, but you must get back up and keep running towards your dreams and goals. There are 30 different testimonies. Some topics include divorce, success in a non-supportive environment, coping with grief and loss, and first-generational college graduates. You can purchase your copy on my website.
