Reclaiming Our Bodies After Injury or Trauma - GNTL Continuum
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kami Kessel, Founder of GNTL Continuum, LLC., located in Richfield, MN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
GNTL(R) Continuum offers therapeutic yoga, yoga therapy, and certified health and well-being coaching to individuals and small groups. Wells and Lilac is a publishing company offering books about nature and well-being.
Tell us about yourself.
I always knew I would do work like this someday. It felt like a "calling." Eventually, I could leave my tech career and devote myself full-time to training and building my business. Each day I am motivated by that "calling," and I genuinely love my work.
I work the most extended hours of my life now, but it's all part of my most authentic self, so it feels creative and energizing. Plus, I am in the well-being universe, so taking care of myself is part of that work, which is excellent!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am creative, so it's special to create parts of myself that go out into the world, and people find helpful and exciting. I have done this with my songs, written material, and my services of yoga therapy and health and well-being coaching.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Wearing all of the different hats. That is, dealing with legal, insurance, payroll, bookkeeping, record keeping, business development, marketing, lead generation, brand creation, public and customer relations, website upkeep, and, oh yeah, doing the thing you are in business for.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Keep regular hours and be consistent. Build repeatable routines and stay on top of things.
- Issues don't go away. They only grow, so practice acceptance set aside any strong dislikes about specific tasks, and go into them with an open mind.
- Reach out for help, and at the same time, don't listen to unhelpful negative comments. Yes, listen to an expert telling you to optimize this or that. Don't listen to a relative telling you this whole thing is "dumb." If you want to do it, get help, be smart, don't over-expose yourself financially, be patient, build, try, respond, and keep at it. And ignore the negative statements (even from yourself) telling you, you can't do something. But be smart! Get help and advice from people who know more than you do!
