Eat, Drink, Experience - Gnomerie Kitchen
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christopher Paquet, Owner of Gnomerie Kitchen, located in Farmington Hills, MI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I do multi-course dinners in my home from a new menu every month. It’s a way to break away from the normal rigid structure of a themed restaurant and also, I suppose, a way to finally do what I love for myself. I look to attract guests who wish to have a different experience and also meet new people since all the diners share the same table.
Tell us about yourself
First and foremost, I love to cook, which is important when you want to also cook on your off days from a kitchen job. I wanted to have my own voice out there and not simply put out dishes that another person curated. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone of interacting more fully with people and have 8 new people every time at the table.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has got to be the first time I sold tickets to a dinner. It was like, holy cow; people actually want to pay to eat at my home.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The laying awake at night sometimes wondering if you’re good enough to do what you do. I’d say the doubt is the hardest part, for me, anyway.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure it’s something you love to do; that satisfaction will come in handy when you think people won’t notice you.
- Look for new ideas in the area your business is in; these will inspire your creativity.
- Hopefully, have someone (significant other, relative, business partner, etc.) that believes in you that will help on those days you think maybe it won’t work out.
