Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Chavonne Stewart, Founder of Global Leadership Techniques, LLC, located in Acworth, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Global Leadership Techniques is a consulting/coaching firm. Our core customers are women in leadership, whether they head their own organizations or work for a company. We offer services at the organizational level and individual. Our goal is to provide the necessary leadership training and development to help the organization and/or leader thrive.
Tell us about yourself
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit since my early twenties. So much so that I have tried my hand at various opportunities, from Avon, and Arbonne to selling insurance. But I discovered in my journey that what I enjoyed the most was empowering and encouraging others to fulfill their dreams. Then one day, I was helping a friend think through some business ideas. She said, “Chavonne, you are coaching.” I never imagined myself being a coach. But I enjoy all aspects of getting people from point A in their journey to point Z. My greatest motivation is knowing that my business can provide me with the freedom to freely indulge in other interests as well as have time for my family.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My greatest accomplishment has been my ability to persevere even in troubling times. Many people give up on their dreams when things do not happen as soon as they expect. I have learned having patience goes a long way. I learned how to revamp what I am doing. And reminding myself giving up is not an option.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things I have experienced in being a business owner is rejecting clients. The rejection stems from them not being willing to pay your fees.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, be sure you write or have someone help you write a sound business plan. A business plan is an organization’s foundation. It is a roadmap that provides direction to your final destination. Second, unless you are wealthy, don’t quit your 9 to 5. Your 9 to 5 is the source for funding your business venture. Finally, to stay focused on your journey, you need to write SMART goals. Goal setting helps you stay on task and know what to do next.
