Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Glenda Britton, Registered Holistic Nutritionist, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I've been a Registered Holistic Nutritionist for over a decade and more recently became a Certified Microbiome Educator. My clients see results as I build protocols based on the latest science in gut health, inflammation, and the microbiome.

My practice has evolved from a focus on mental health to now including helping individuals with complex health issues implement a personalized health plan in an educational and supportive way. Recommendations include: nutrition strategies, supplements, and 'tweaks' in lifestyle habits to create a healthy(er) balance in the body.

I've teamed up with meditation experts and work with individuals across North America. I'm also the nutritionist at the START Clinic for Mood & Anxiety Disorders in Toronto.

Tell us about yourself

My passion for holistic nutrition grew from my own lived experience. After years of going to multiple doctors, taking a variety of medications and 'buckets' of supplements for a few different health conditions - I quite by accident discovered food as medicine. I then returned to school to learn the science behind why food could help me get better when nothing else could.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been asked to speak at the largest holistic health conference in North America this Spring. The CHNC Conference May 13 - 14. Click the link for more information: https://www.csnnalumni.org/chnc-2022/speakers-2022/

Plus, I've been nominated for a lifetime achievement award for having made an impact in the holistic nutrition industry over the past ten years. The award will be announced at the CHNC conference in May – fingers crossed – LOL!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a holistic nutritionist is having to do it ALL, from marketing to bookkeeping to managing clients and keeping on top of all the latest science in the field.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Try and have some boundaries around work hours – it's easy to spend all of your time working as an entrepreneur.
  2. Pick a target market and stick with it the best you can.
  3. Always keep in mind the 'why' someone would choose your product or service over someone else's.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Holistic nutrition is about the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Finding the balance between all these areas is the key to achieving the optimal state of health and well-being. I am currently enrolled in a one-year intensive program where I'm enhancing my abilities to use tools such as dialogue, meditation, energy awareness, and sensing the shared field to help individuals find happiness by getting in touch with their authentic selves. I look forward to bringing these newfound skills to my client community.
