Monocle Premier Eye Care - Glee-Ann Llemit
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Glee-Ann Llemit, Owner of Monocle Premier Eye Care, located in Houston, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an optometrist in Houston, TX, and I have an optical boutique called Monocle Premier Eye Care. We offer eye exams and myopia control, and we manage eye diseases through the use of digital technology. At Monocle Premier Eye Care, we take pride in helping our patients find the right pair of glasses.
Tell us about yourself
I have been practicing optometry for over a decade and have worked in all aspects of optometry. I worked in retail chains, academic settings, and private practice. So I was able to take all my experiences from those offices and create a more personalized setting for my own private practice. My first job was in Boston, and I distinctly remember seeing a quote at my job that read, "If you don't build your dream, someone will hire you to help build theirs." This quote always stayed with me and became my motivation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My favorite quote is "The struggle is part of the story," and I couldn't agree more. When I first opened my practice, Houston had just endured Harvey, so there were many obstacles associated with that. Then in 2020, when I started to finally feel stable on my feet, COVID happened, which was really difficult to navigate through. Being a business owner in 2020 was a NIGHTMARE. All small businesses were faced with the same dilemmas – staff shortage and delays in production. I feel so lucky that my office was able to make it despite the struggles we endured during covid.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner has to wear so many different hats. In the beginning, I found myself being the doctor, the manager, the administrator, the social media director - the list goes on. It became exhausting getting caught up in the minutia of trying to run a business, and I was overwhelmed and overstretched. It became apparent to me that I needed to start delegating certain tasks and learn to let go.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top 3 tips would be to be persistent, network, and build a strong support system.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I am very passionate about current fashion trends and eyewear. My travel experience and broad worldview allow me to help my patients select eyewear that complements their unique personalities and style.
