Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina Phan, owner of Glazen Nails, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Glazen Nails, which is not only just a nail salon but also a brand that provides continuous innovation in terms of quality and customer service and inspires people to do things their love in a new way. Being a customer-centric brand, listening to clients' feedback, and sharing and learning new things is how I improve my business.

Our customers are everyone who wants their nails to be stronger to be more aesthetic. From the lady who wants their nails to look perfect on a special occasion to a mom who wants to protect her nails from doing housework every day, we will give them the most pamper and caring treatment.

Tell us about yourself

With more than 14 years of practical customer experience in the nail business, I found that customers are still facing many difficulties in selecting a nail salon that has not only reasonable prices but also provides reputable, professional, and caring services. That's the reason why Glazen nails were born, to bring a whole new experience to customers in this competitive field but not yet qualified.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To become the pioneer to bring the best in many different criteria to meet the needs of our customers. Building a professional-scale brand, carrying our own identity, becomes the destination that customers will think of first when they need to use beauty services.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You can not satisfy every client that comes to you, but you have to be your best self and be grateful for every feedback they give in order to become better.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand yourself; you have to know what is your strength and weakness.
  2. Never stop learning, not only from learning new things in books and classes; you have to meet new people that share the same vision as you.
  3. Never stop believing; starting and running a business is HARD. But you have to trust yourself, overcome the fear, and believe your hard work today will pay off tomorrow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Running a business is a long-term thing. I would love to connect and learn from all people around me.
