For The Women I Love - Gicela Holguin

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gicela Holguin, Founder of For The Women I Love, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

For The Women I Love is a business coaching meet mindset work approach to building a business. I work with women who have been dreaming about starting a business but have been too discouraged or feel they don't have the tools to get started. I don't just teach them business planning; I look at the woman behind the business and help her gain the skills she needs to build any kind of business she desires. These women are born entrepreneurs who have not been seen and encouraged to follow their dreams but to take the safe road, and now in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s are realizing they are tired of doing life on everyone else's terms.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Colombian-born Canadian-raised woman who did not feel like she belonged anywhere. It was through entrepreneurship that I was able to create a place for myself in the world. And now I teach women just that. That they do not have to do life or business in the way society has taught them. That they can make up their own rules, and it is this mission that keeps me motivated every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been to be the living, breathing example as an immigrant, woman of color, and someone that has had to work very hard for everything so that we can truly create a life and business of the skills and gifts we have while also having a great impact in the world. That creativity pays off well if you know how to use it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing to overcome in this journey is ourselves, to truly hold the belief that we are worthy of great things and that even though we can't always tangible see them, they are coming. It's keeping the faith to stay the course long enough for it to pay off, to not fear innovation or having to pivot; change is not starting over, it's evolution, and that is just part of life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Part of creating the best business for yourself is knowing yourself well and having clear values. The more you know that, the easier your business strategy will be.
  2. You have to have a purpose behind what you do because if it's just for money, you will give up fast, but for purpose, you will fight with all your heart to make it happen.
