The Future of Takeout - Ghost Truck Kitchen

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Martino, founder of Ghost Truck Kitchen, located in Jersey City, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Ghost Truck Kitchen is a next-gen neighborhood takeout and delivery restaurant featuring multiple virtual food trucks, aka Ghost Trucks. We ensure that everyone can have exactly what they want, all in one order, no matter what you feel like eating. Our focus is on quality, variety, and sustainability. We make all of our food from scratch without any highly processed ingredients.

Tell us about yourself

Back in 2017, I thought takeout could be better, much better. So I started to think about what that would look like. More variety, more quality, more convenience, and sustainable packaging and are a few of the driving factors that make us a better option for takeout and delivery. The great thing about restaurants is that every day the scoreboard resets. Every day we have a chance to affect peoples' lives positively through food.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making it to year three without any outside investment. Our journey started as a pipe dream and proof of concept when we first signed a lease in 2018, bootstrapping our way to opening.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Responsibility. The job is never done. You are never off the clock. People's livelihoods depend on you, and when something goes wrong, it is ultimately your fault.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Plan, research as much as you can.
  2. Have double the money you think you need to start.
  3. Invest in the people working with you to help take you to the next level.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Order direct from your local restaurants!
