Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Delia Petrescu, Founder of Get Reconnected Psychotherapy Services, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Get Reconnected Psychotherapy & Counselling Services is dedicated to guiding individuals and couples through their mental health journeys. Based in Toronto and serving clients virtually across Ontario, we aim to offer a warm and understanding environment for clients to address their concerns, build resilience, and grow their relationships. It's more than therapy - it's about helping our clients find their way back to a stronger sense of self and improved connections with themselves and others. Our areas of focus are infertility, depression, anxiety, burnout, postpartum and relationship difficulties.
Tell us about yourself
I've always been drawn to understanding and supporting others, a trait that naturally led me into psychotherapy. My academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in psychology, followed by a master's degree in counselling psychology. My professional background and experience include being a psychometrist conducting neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and neuropsychovocational assessments of therapeutic practices. What drives me daily is the profound belief in the resilience and uniqueness of each individual I meet. This belief, combined with a commitment to providing a safe space for growth and discovery, fuels my passion for the work I do at Get Reconnected Psychotherapy & Counselling Services.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my most meaningful achievements was quickly growing my solo practice into a group practice within one year of starting. This rapid expansion allowed us to start an affordable therapy program with practicum interns, matching our mission for accessibility and our core belief that financial constraints should not hinder anyone's access to mental wellness support.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the toughest parts of being both a business owner and a psychotherapist is the challenge of juggling multiple roles simultaneously. Not only am I responsible for the therapeutic aspect of my practice, but I also manage the operational and administrative duties that come with running a group practice. This balancing act requires a constant shift between the compassionate, focused presence needed for therapy and the strategic, analytical mindset necessary for business management.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
For anyone starting or running a business, my top three tips would be: First, stay true to your vision and values, they'll guide your decisions and help you stay focused. Second, be ready to adapt because flexibility can be a game-changer in the business world. And third, don't forget to look after yourself, keeping your energy and creativity high is key to keeping your business thriving.
