What's your business, and who are your customers?

Get Out! Custom Travels is a boutique travel agency focused on helping busy professionals check off their travel bucket lists. We specialize in custom itineraries and premium/luxury cruises around the world, including Europe, Japan, and beyond. As the agency owner, it is important to me to work with quality supplier partners that value sustainability within the communities in which they operate.

Tell us about yourself

I launched Get Out! Custom Travels in 2016 to help both novice and experienced travelers elevate their vacations. I credit my grandparents for instilling in me the love of travel when I was a child. What I love most about traveling is learning about new cultures, trying new foods, and discovering new things about myself and my travel mates. Knowing that I play a role in keeping the travel and tourism industry going around the world motivates me to continue to do what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Aside from making it through COVID, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is creating a recognizable brand from just an idea. We've been able to help hundreds of our clients see the world and learn new things.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects (and also one of the best parts) of being a business owner is that I have the final say in making decisions. I cannot defer to management and must be able to choose the best path for the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a community of business owners you can turn to for support and motivation.
  2. Be aware of what your strengths and weaknesses are. Capitalize on your strengths and delegate your weaknesses.
  3. Know your worth, and don't let anyone bully you. As a woman business owner, it is easy to allow disrespect and mistreatment. Stand your ground and let your community support and encourage you.
