Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Geeta Armstrong, Co-Owner of Restore Pelvic Health and Wellness, located in Greenville, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the co-owner of Restore Pelvic Health and Wellness with my wonderful partner Jenna Sires. We own a pelvic floor specialty clinic that specializes primarily in the dysfunction of the bladder, bowels, sexual intimacy, and pelvic pain. However, we are also skilled in the treatment of patients with orthopedic dysfunction as we have several therapists who are highly trained in orthopedics.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a physical therapist for 23 years. I started out as an orthopedic and sports medicine therapist who was passionately treating shoulder and knee injuries. About 10 years ago, I was introduced to pelvic floor physical therapy. Even after being a physical therapist for years, I still thought pelvic floor therapy was for women who leaked urine. I was surprised when I learned all the different diagnoses encompassing pelvic floor therapy. I wanted to be a part of the healing process of patients searching for help. Ten years later, I have a Pelvic Rehabilitation Certificate and am a proud co-owner of a thriving pelvic floor specialty clinic. Helping people learn how they can take control of their health is a rewarding way to start and end your day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a pelvic floor physical therapist is educating physicians, chiropractors, other physical therapists, and the community about the need and benefits of pelvic floor therapy. In 2 years of practice, Jenna and I were able to move into a new space, hire 5 great employees, and create long-lasting relationships with the patients and providers we serve.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a clinician is something that I know how to do well. However, learning how to be a business owner is the ongoing challenge. Payroll, taxes, and accounting are just a few of the things that I least enjoy. I love treating patients, but this is a necessary part of owning a business. I am glad that I have a wonderful partner to share these chores.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research the market and then be the best business in it.
  2. If you feel passionate about something, your business will show it.
  3. Choose your staff wisely and treat them well.
