Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maryline Lambelin, Owner of Gautier Studio, located in Montréal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create unique handmade rugs and wall hangings using the tufting technique. My primary focus is on creating one-of-a-kind, visually striking pieces that can be used to enhance the aesthetic of any space. My customers range from art enthusiasts and interior designers looking for bespoke pieces to elevate their spaces to individuals who appreciate handmade, high-quality textiles.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been passionate about art and design. I was particularly drawn to the world of textiles due to their tactile nature and the countless possibilities they offer in terms of patterns, colors, and textures. When I first discovered the tufting technique, I was immediately captivated by its versatility and the unique creations it enabled me to produce. What initially started as a personal hobby quickly evolved into a full-fledged business as I saw a demand for custom, high-quality rugs, and wall hangings. Gautier Studio was born out of my desire to share my passion for textiles and tufting with a wider audience and offer unique, handcrafted pieces that can make a statement in any space.

What motivates me each day is the opportunity to bring my creative visions to life and to inspire others with my work. I feel a great sense of satisfaction when I see the joy and appreciation that my creations bring to my customers. Additionally, I am driven by the desire to continuously improve my craft, explore new ideas, and push the boundaries of what can be achieved with the tufting technique.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest achievement will be to create an exclusive collection for Simons. It is a wonderful acknowledgment to be welcomed among the 250 Canadian artists. The theme will be Architecture, and I am very eager to introduce you to my collection, which will consist of 6 rugs and 3 wall hangings in a limited series.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The most challenging part is doing everything. Administration, social media, website management, communication with clients... you need to be very well organized to leave time for the creative process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
