Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shanna Koenig Camuso, founder, and CEO of Gather Nuts, located in Bend, OR, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are an artisanal whole food snack company that goes through the rigorous process of soaking and slow roasting our products to provide a highly nutritious nut that tastes amazing and has a satisfying crunch. From athletes to working parents and travelers, our products fuel all of life's adventures.
Tell us about yourself
I truly believe in the power of food. I learned about our soaking process when I was in nutrition school. Having grown up eating nuts on a regular basis, the idea that they could be made in a more nutritious way intrigued me. Making a product that supports the health of our customers is my number one inspiration.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My product. I love everything about it. I still eat it every day. I truly believe it supports my overall health - and it definitely makes my taste buds smile.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's all-consuming, and learning to manage it takes time. I'm a solo founder, so while I can lean on my team, at the end of the day, I'm the one making the decisions, and you don't always know what the best choice is.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
You have to believe in yourself and your product. And you have to have the passion in order to do the daily grind.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I never set out to be an entrepreneur - it just happened. It's the hardest thing I've ever done and the most rewarding.
