Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonathan Weizmann, founder of Gastronome Catering, located in New York, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We operate in the world of catering, yet we have expanded to include a retail space, a bakery business, and staffing. We have created a wider net since 2019. We were forced to adapt and create new pillars of revenue with respect to the new businesses listed above.
Tell us about yourself
I have been working in the business of hospitality for over 30 plus years. It all started with my mom pulling me out of my bed one summer and telling me to go get a job! I have always been working on my business since the beginning. It is an integral part of my moral compass, my ethics, my drive, my passion, and my fun!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting the business off the ground. It is the hardest thing to really say I am going to go for it and start a business. It is super scary but exciting and invigorating every day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The unknown is a constant as forecasting helps drive the strategy, but there is always an unknown nowadays. Nothing is guaranteed.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Passion, having fun, and being fair. These all apply to me as a person, my customers, and my team.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I am always looking to pass on words of wisdom and self-reflection because when you are young, you don't think about these things, and it is good to hear it.
