What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an author and speaker focusing on supporting people to equip and steward their leadership. My audience has been predominantly in the multifamily industry, including VPs, Regional and District Managers, Community Managers, Assistant Managers, Leasing Consultants, and vendor partners that support the multifamily industry.
Tell us about yourself
I started in this business through an encounter with best-selling author and speaker, Mike Rodriguez. Through his example, conversations, and encouragement, I ended up co-authoring a book with him and ultimately ended up writing a few more books solo - and becoming a best-selling author as well. I found others that expressed interest in my books and how I presented information. It has always been a joy to write and speak, so I combined both.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is not the things; it's the people. When people share feedback regarding how my books encouraged, helped, and inspired them. When my presentations move someone to think, speak and act in a way they never thought possible. Those are the biggest accomplishments for me.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
What I find the most difficult part of being a business owner are order and time. Order is keeping family first and business second. Time is squeezing every available minute purposefully.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Determine what problem you can solve.
- Identify if there are customers out there that would want that problem solved.
- Niche down. Don't do everything. Do what you do better.
