What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of Educate Empower Lead. We are a professional organization that provides Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshops, Professional Development Training, Executive Leadership Coaching, and Personal Development Services. We currently work with Non-profits, School Districts, Private Organizations, and Government agencies.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in 2017, and the goal was to educate agencies about Diversity and Inclusion. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling and Rehabilitation, and I often would see the racial and ethnic disparities in the counseling field and with clients of color. That is what motivated me to want to teach and facilitate trainings and seminars around the importance of having representation and how not having representation impacts the population being served.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say being able to network with other businesses by securing funding and contracts.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When you work for yourself, a lot of the responsibilities fall in your lap. You are the one that has to keep everything afloat. I would say the hardest thing with that does not have enough funding to hire additional people to assist with the day-to-day operation is one of my biggest challenges. In business, sometimes you may want to hire an assistant, but you may need to do that yourself. It's all about being able to prioritize your needs, and sometimes that becomes difficult as your needs grow.
