Bringing Web3 to Life With Augmented Reality - Gallery Arc
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Greg Smart, CFO of Gallery Arc, located in Playa del Rey, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Gallery Arc's mission is to enable creators of all types (artists, brands, individuals) to create, manage and transact Web3 properties. These are Web3-enabled AR/VR art, objects, experiences, and software. Our technology today enables creators to mint an AR/VR Object to the blockchain and assign it to a specific Geolocation. Our long-term goal is to provide a seamless experience for these creators, akin to what Shopify provides for e-commerce entrepreneurs today. To accomplish this, we are developing new technology that bridges complex problems and connects technology and access that is not currently available or integrated. Our interoperable Web3-based AR/VR layer will work across platforms, effectively creating greater value and experience by bridging the universe with the metaverse.

The team at Gallery Arc is so dynamic. Every day we all do small forward propelling things, and collectively we are achieving something wonderful. It is awesome to be part of this type of collaboration.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment is learning how to encourage and motivate a team through difficult times. Entrepreneur life is tough, and there are always going to be unforeseen challenges, so learning how to navigate the doldrums and tsunami in a way that can keep the team united is a core achievement.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I think many business owners would not agree. I think the hardest thing is to always be hiring and working with people that can replace you because they are more talented. They force growth both individually and as an organization. I think this is the breeding ground for innovation. I also think our job is to always serve. So I am no greater than the sum of the parts. If the bathroom needs to be kept, it can spend a few minutes to help with that too. Organizations with this humility inspire me, and it helps to break some organizational faults that I think tend to get out of hand.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I would choose better people over better ideas. Work with people that want the best for you and are not only trying to stack lettuce. Ideas are important, but businesses with rough people may not be the environment you desire to spend your days, months, or years in.
- A business is not a 50-yard dash; it is a marathon. Don't build it fast and sloppy. Take a little time to do it right. At some point, when you try to sell it, you will be glad you were more diligent in the process.
- Don't make the company your own baby. Make it a business in which you are the best nanny ever. That way, you take some things a little less personal because your perspective is changed. It also places you in a position to make better choices for the business when it gets tough.
