Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gabriela Embon, founder of Coaching Academy by Gabriela Embon, located in LaSalle, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Coaching Academy's mission is to train the next generation of Life Coaches with the most transformational, innovative, and effective tools to help individuals create a life of fulfillment and abundance, starting with their own.

Tell us about yourself

I made a career change from being an accomplished Chemical engineer to becoming a Certified Life Coach 12 years ago. I was successful but unfulfilled and the idea of living the rest of my working years constantly depleted from a job that didn't fill me up was scarier than the fear of change. I can tell you that I decided to become a coach because I love helping people and have a gift for helping others connect the dots in their lives, BUT the truth is that people choose to become coaches so they can solely focus on their own transformation.

By getting paid to facilitate transformation for others, guide others in realizing their full potential, shedding the weight that holds them back, and shift paradigms, coaches are basically giving themselves permission to focus on their personal growth, the realization of their full potential, their own paradigms shift.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is in the community that we have built at The Coaching Academy. We always say that we are not just a school; we are a community and run the academy as such. I love our community of Coaches and ThetaHealing practitioners. We provide bi-weekly support and professional development to our alumni free of charge.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come from being a business owner is giving yourself permission to be "you" and run the business in alignment with who you are and how you are designed to create. We are constantly being sold formulas and "the one ultimate way" to build a coaching business, but the truth is that the path to success is custom-made for each person. I remember myself as a beginner coach, trying to copy what others were doing and constantly comparing myself with them. Not only is each person designed to create differently, but also, when we compare ourselves to others, we usually compare to those who are far in their journey, doing ourselves a disservice. Rather than focusing on what our prospective clients need and how to be at service, we end up making it about ourselves and our insecurities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Success requires getting out of our comfort zone. It's much easier to find the courage to share what you do, post a video on social media, or daring contacting a prospective client if we become a little less self-aware and shift our attention and focus on the impact we are here to offer, the calling to help others realize their own mission.
  2. "You don't need to figure it out to start; you need to start to figure it out." The guidance and learning are in the doing, not in the thinking. The clarity you are looking for is found along the path, not in the start line.
  3. Work on yourself. Many times I hear coaches say: "I have a hard time posting videos. The idea of exposing myself scares me". My answer is, "great! work on it". As part of the Coaching training, our coaches learn a powerful technique to shift limiting beliefs and build an empowering mindset. Mindset work is not just to facilitate for your clients but an integrated part of your business success. The path of a successful entrepreneur is strongly correlated to the path of self-work, removing one block at a time. The more you work on yourself, the more levels of fulfillment and success you experience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Many think that living a life you no longer need a vacation from is wishful thinking. Dreams are not supposed to be unattainable. At least not those that emerge from the deepest part of us, deep desire or calling. These Dreams are the language of our soul, revealing to us why and what we are here for. Your job in life is to be you; therefore, Your perfect job is your dream job. What makes dreams unattainable is the lack of self permission to dare live them.... which with time turns into our biggest regret. It's possible for you to embark on the journey of fulfilling your calling. We know that…because I did it, and many of our coaches did it too! And YOU are NO EXCEPTION! All you need is YOUR permission, desire, commitment, and grit (consistent steps towards your goal). I believe that the purpose in life is not to discover our calling but to live our calling.
