What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an Aesthetician and Educator of Aesthetics. I specialize in all skin conditions, especially anti-aging treatments.

Tell us about yourself

I became inspired to become an Esthetician while working at a local beauty supply store when I was around 18 years old. While I was working, a woman who was an Aesthetician came in, and after speaking with her, I knew it was the right career path for me. I have been in the field ever since enrolling in a school that year in 2003.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment was just maintaining through hard times and maneuvering through my personal obstacles and perseverance. My skincare line Skyn Fuzion and going through the process of becoming a Med spa has been rewarding even though it's been challenging at times.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think as such a small business acquiring working capital has been my biggest challenge. I've learned a lot about business finance, and there is so much more to learn. I'm also a single parent, so as a mompreneur, it can be difficult to balance work with home, but there are always solutions if we stay the course.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have a strategic plan for everything, such as finances and marketing. We often rely on our skill set alone, but your strategy will make or break you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Half the battle is believing you can do it. Once you wholeheartedly believe in yourself and develop daily routines to work on and in your business, everyday things fall in place. As a solo business owner and operator, it can be difficult, but going in with a plan and executing it every day will make it a lot less stressful to achieve success.
