Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paloma Lopez, co-founder, and CEO of Future Fit Foods, located in Longmont, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Future Fit Foods' mission is to bring convenient plant-based mini-meals to people through delicious, nutrient-packed, and circular foods to inspire the industry to change. Our line of instantly-fresh plant-based SUPPAS (www.getsuppas.com) is made with organic and non-GMO ingredients, and each SUPPAS is packed with over ten superfoods. We use an Incan-inspired preservation technique that uses low temperatures to lock in nutrients, taste, texture, and aroma. SUPPAS are ready to be enjoyed in only three hot minutes. They come packaged in pouches made from industrial compostable materials.

Tell us about yourself

I have spent over 18 years working dedicated to improving our food systems working across the value chain, from developing sustainable agriculture programs with farmers to launching new products and brand programs for brands like Kellogg, Kashi, and MorningStar Farms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Designing and bringing to market a line of foods that were designed to prioritize the wellbeing of people and the planet. I'm particularly proud of Future Fit Foods being the first US food company to make RePack reusable envelopes available to customers for online orders to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% when used to replace the standard single-use boxes.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Owning a business means you are solving problems constantly, especially when you are an emerging brand in a very competitive landscape, as is the food industry. You have to be comfortable solving difficult challenges and not taking them personally, just focusing your energy on solving them and identifying opportunities out of the most difficult challenges.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Simplify everywhere you can.
  2. Surround yourself with good people and partners that are good humans.
  3. Make time every day for your family yourself and to enjoy life no matter how much work you have to do.
