Makeup That Won't Break You Out - Frilliance

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fiona Frills, CEO of Frilliance, located in Saratoga, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Frilliance is clean cosmetics that fight acne and nurture healthy teen skin…created by an actual teenager. If you're a teenager like me (or a mom of a tween/teen!), you need clean, affordable skincare and makeup that won't break you out.

I created Frilliance to help teens feel confident and empowered in their skin. Every product at Frilliance is developed and tested by me, a real teen with sensitive, acne-prone skin.

Tell us about yourself

I love and have always loved all things makeup and am obsessed with trying new products. I also know what it's like to have teen skin. When I started breaking out with pimples, I decided to research makeup ingredients to see if that could be the problem. I found that so many products use ingredients that can actually cause acne and pimples or make them worse! No teen wants that! Inspired, I started from scratch and formulated my makeup line for what I call "teen-prone" skin, a kinder way to say "acne or pimple-prone skin."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a teen business owner is inspiring other teens. I have a Frilliance Rep Program - a direct retail program -- to help teens start a side hustle and learn about business and sales. https://frilliance.com/pages/join-us

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management is definitely one of the hardest things for me as a teen and now a business owner. In addition, I am a social media influencer, so staying on top of all my own, my brand social media, along with the details of running a business, requires great time management, which I am getting better at. :)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn time management skills.
  2. Don't wait for the 'right' time - just get started and adapt along the way.
  3. Don't listen to critics, especially ones that don't know your business.
