What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the owner of the FRESH Media Blog. FRESH is an acronym for Finding Real Entertainment on the Streets of Houston. I serve spectators of art who are looking for fun events to attend in the city. I also amplify the work of up-and-coming artists in the Houston area.
Tell us about yourself
The blog started as a platform I created to complete assignments in my master's program back in 2015. I'm motivated each day by the hidden gems of Houston. When I arrived here in 2010 for undergrad, no one talked about the arts and culture scene, so it was really difficult to find my people. At the time, I was majoring in media production and minoring in dance. After graduating, not much changed, but I'm glad to see that over the years, a lot has changed!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is always finding dope artists to interview and learning more about them, their background, and their work. They inspire me to continue being me, and they empower me to embrace my uniqueness. I'm also adding an extra element to my business and have started a YouTube channel, FRESH Media TV. I have a lot in store for the future of the brand.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Managing my time! I work a full-time job and have a husband and two dogs! Even though it might take extra work to make time for my passion, it's always worth it in the end.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be consistent.
- Don't tell everyone your dreams because they can't always see your vision!
- Remember that rest is just as important as consistency. If you need to schedule a time to rest, DO IT!
