What's your business, and who are your customers?
I design, host, and maintain WordPress websites. Most of my clients are small businesses with less than ten employees who want to make a difference in the world or provide services or products in a special way or with a unique spin.
Tell us about yourself
I have a background in design, photography, and tech. For close to 20 years, I was a commercial photographer's agent working with enterprise-end clients like Delta, Aflac, Publix, and Dixie. I loved being involved in advertising with those bigger creative projects, but I didn't get to be the creator. So when it was time to change direction, I went back to my design and tech roots. Now I get to be creative every day while helping small businesses show why they are special. I love getting to know my clients and their businesses in order to help them stand out.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Continued growth each year. So far, even during the pandemic, my business has been steadily growing.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Balancing doing the day-to-day work for clients with all the things you have to do to grow a business. There are a lot of balls to keep in the air at one time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get out from behind your desk and talk to people. Create energy by networking with other types of businesses. When networking, don't expect work to come right away. Just be there as a resource consistently, and the work will come.
- Streamline your product and services so that you can be efficient. Don't try to do everything.
- Focus on communication with your clients. You can never over-communicate with them while you are working together.
- Be authentic. Don't try to be something that you aren't or appear bigger than you are. People want to work with people that they know and trust.
