What's your business, and who are your customers?
I offer a vast array of custom paintings ranging from Animal Spirits, wildlife, pet portraits, customized wood hands, landscapes, and the occasional motorcycle tank and helmet. Since my artwork is so varied, so is my clientele. From every walk of life, and I love it!
Tell us about yourself
I was a little over a decade into a different career until it nearly broke my spirit. This made me ask myself, "what makes me happy?" Art and being creative was and is my answer. I had let that creative side of me get buried under the weight of work and the burdens of everyday life. So here I am, painting the things I love. It's work that doesn't feel like work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Ooh! Two things. First, I have proven to myself and to those who think that art is only a hobby that having a creative career is possible. Second, witnessing people have an emotional response to what I create. Nothing will bring me joy than seeing the tears of somebody who was gifted a portrait of a beloved pet or a client who is so happy to see their "animal spirit" actualized.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I am a one-woman show. I am the artist/creator, marketing and sales, shipping and receiving, accountant, and social media manager... But it's 100% worth it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find mentors and people doing similar things. Learn from them.
- Ask yourself what makes you happy.
- Trust and believe in yourself. Things have a way of falling into place to make it happen.
