Re-build Your Base - Foundation Physiotherapy & Wellness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raj Suppiah, Co-Founder of Foundation Physiotherapy & Wellness, located in Toronto, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Foundation Physiotherapy & Wellness - we are Toronto's premier destination for physical health and wellness services! Our clients are people of all ages committed to improving their physical health. They form relationships with our engaging healthcare providers, learn about their bodies and continually work towards injury prevention and maximizing their physical health. Together with our clients, we are energetic and outcome-driven!

Tell us about yourself

I am an immigrant moving to Toronto at age 9. I've always viewed myself as an outsider and someone with something to prove. Even as I became a healthcare practitioner, I did not feel like I belonged. Healthcare is a stable industry, but it is also stagnant. It is an industry that is way too comfortable with itself. I co-founded my first practice in 2011 to remove the stuffiness behind healthcare practices. We wanted it to be a vibe - a place where you can access professionals, get evidence-based outcomes, and have fun. And these are our core at Foundation - experience, professionalism, results-driven, AND energetic. From there, we just kept going; One clinic became two. Two clinics became one again. Then we became three. Then there was a pandemic, and we had to close. And now we are at five. What motivates me is to keep improving. Much like we push our clients to keep improving themselves physically, my business is a tool for me to push myself in areas I need - management, systems, finances, and most importantly, relationships.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is still something I am working on: allowing others to take charge. Creating a company that grows leaders and will enable people to lead how they see fit. My ultimate goal would be to be able to replace my roles and myself completely.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Patience! There is A LOT of information for entrepreneurs - blogs, gurus, coaches, templates, systems. You cannot do everything at once. Your business is a learning tool for your success. As you grow, your business grows. Create goals and deadlines. Communicate your vision and delegate well, but firm. Trust others. Be patient.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
  2. Your business is an extension of YOU. Have a support system and mentor that you can trust and lean on.
  3. Have fun with it! Passion leads to profits.
