Your Story Is Our Passion - Forty First Street

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business solutions but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sasha Nagy, Founder & President of Forty First Street Media, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide creative video solutions for business and media companies. My client list ranges from international charitable organizations, national media companies, and public relations and consultant firms.

Tell us about yourself

I worked for 30+ years in journalism and worked on many different publications. I was fortunate to get into digital media when it was just growing, and I grew my storytelling skills along with the growth of digital media. I was an early innovator and adopter of multimedia and video storytelling.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date has been to deliver quality video production, both produced and live events, to my clients. Gaining their trust has been the most satisfying. There is a lot of competition for the services I offer, and the opportunity to work with reputable and genuine people has been rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge I have had so far is juggling the demands of business development and production. When I spend too much time on one, the other inevitably falls behind. I am getting better at that. I never had to close any sales during my career as a journalist, so learning how to identify and address a business's needs and value proposition has been a learning experience.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research. Take a good look at the market for your services and ask yourself, "Can I offer something new and unique that people want?"
  2. Talk to people: Get out and network and meet with people on a regular basis. Most of my leads came from meeting people in person and asking them what they needed.
  3. Believe in yourself: Don't take rejection personally, and always remind yourself of your value. It starts within you, and people recognize that quality immediately.
