The Best Version of You Today - FORM
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sami Bernstein, partner at FORM, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Partner of FORM - a leading platform in the at-home fitness space. Our Founder, Sami Clarke, has revolutionized the effectiveness of 30 minutes dedicated to you and your health wherever or whenever you choose to move your body. Our close-knit community of members is built from like-minded individuals who not only prioritize the incredible feeling of completing an amazing workout but also choose to support our other members on a similar wellness journey. The fitness industry can sometimes channel a competitive feeling within a community - at FORM, we channel a collective feeling of belongingness for all shapes, sizes, ages, genders, etc.
Tell us about yourself
My career has been deeply rooted in Influencer Marketing since day one. I saw the social media wave, which quickly turned into the new digital age tsunami that platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and now TikTok created, and I knew it was a space that I wanted to dive deeply into. After leading million(+) dollar campaigns on the brand/agency side as my first introduction to the Influencer world, I developed an incredible appreciation for the "friend-to-friend" conversation the content creators I was working with built with their unique audiences. The results from our campaigns proved to traditional marketing folks that Influencer Marketing was here to stay and that their ad dollars should not be funneled towards marketing channels that not only lacked attribution but also lacked any sense of relativity to the end customer they were attempting to acquire.
Knowing that, when Sami Clarke (someone who I would peg as the epitome of how Influencers can create deep and insanely connected relationships with their followers) asked me to partner with her to launch FORM, it was an immediate yes. We are motivated on a daily basis by the power of the community Sami Clarke has created, which is now perfectly reflected in the FORM fam.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I take pride in leading by example. At FORM, we leave our ego at the door, and a common phrase amongst our team is that we each wear a ton of hats. That analogy is not meant to be mistaken as an unorganized circus of a business where everyone is doing a million random things, but rather a testament to the fact that we are all equals and no one is too good for any task.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Any and every entrepreneur would likely agree that one of the hardest aspects of starting a business is the risk associated. It is easy to do what other people have already proven to be successful. Deviating off the typical path to success and rather creating your own trail to the top does not always come without many challenges and failures along the way. I believe that those moments when every little thing is not going as planned allow business owners to make hard decisions that lead to future growth. Without risk, there is no reward. Without the experience of failures, there is no change to put you on the path to success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your gut - your intuition is your best friend.
- Test everything - you do not know what could be until you try.
- Hire rockstars and hire for your personal weaknesses - allow your business to grow beyond what you can personally do.
