Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zac Spinosa, Owner of Forge Lifting Club, located in Fenwick, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Forge is a private Lifting Club that serves health and fitness coaching to those looking to gain strength, increase health markers, lose body fat, and so much more.
Tell us about yourself
When I was 16 (9 years ago), I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis which brought me from top tier athlete to not being able to put on my own clothes. Knowing that my life couldn’t continue that way, I took my destiny into my own hands and dove head first into health and fitness literature and created a plan to get healthy.
Over the years, I’ve dramatically benefited my own health and gotten stronger each day, even fighting with constant bouts of adversity. Each day has been another chance to take control of my own fate, and that’s what keeps me going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
If I were to choose one thing to be proud of as a business owner, it is that over the years of owning a fitness club, I have seen so many incredible people who felt lost and hopeless completely change their lifestyles and retake their lives. Being their coach is my greatest achievement.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I believe one of the hardest things about being a business owner is saying “no” and making the hard decisions on what is more valuable for your time. We cannot always give our all in every situation, so picking and choosing those battles is never easy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- START! Don’t overthink it. If you believe you don’t have everything ready, that you’re not fully prepared, and so on… Who cares? You never will be! Just start and learn with each day.
- Practice what you preach. If you are starting a service business, you must show that you value your service as much as the people you are selling it to.
- Documentation is key. Taking pictures and videos of where you are starting and along the way to where you will eventually be is so important. Not only will it make you feel extremely proud it will also show the hard work and dedication to your craft to all of your customers.
