Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Roxana Cooley, Founder of Food as Medicine, located in Costa Mesa, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help 50s+ women struggling with weight gain achieve long-lasting healthy weight loss with my proven method. No strict diet or quick unhealthy weight loss. I use the healing powers of natural foods and exercise to help them according to their needs to build healthy eating habits as a lifestyle. The effectiveness of my method is backed by the most reliable knowledge about proper nutrition and fitness as a lifestyle, as well as success stories, my own experiences, and ongoing studies.

Tell us about yourself

During my modeling career and pageant competitions, I tried every diet and method to lose weight, and nothing worked for me. Finally, I discovered food as medicine and incorporated exercise to maintain a healthy figure and energy level. I lost more than 10 pounds, my clothes fit better, and I won the crown of Ms. Perú in 1980. I also learned how food could rebuild my body when I felt more energized and was not getting sick – all because of the food and exercise changes.

Fast forward, and after getting married and having my first baby, I still had weight to lose. So I resumed more of my healthy habits, got back to my healthier weight, and won another crown for Mrs. Perú in 1984. This was when I knew I had to share the benefits of Food as Medicine with other women. Many years after I moved to the States, I got my degree in Nutrition & Fitness as I continued to help women with weight loss issues.

Now, watching my clients improve their diet, fitness, and overall health has been the most gratifying experience. It has not only confirmed my passion for nutrition and fitness but has also inspired me to educate specifically about how eating habits impact self-image too.
