Capturing Your Most Beautiful Moments - Flux Media Yeg
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrei Roman, Founder of Flux Media Yeg, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business focuses on Portrait and Wedding photography in Edmonton. Alberta, Canada, and the area. We have been serving clients since 2016, and it is an absolute pleasure to help people create memories and capture them in the best light possible. Our clients usually find us for wedding photos and then become portrait and family clients. We focus on a higher-end clientele to align with our work. The studio also focuses on creating an experience for all of our clients, which in turn requires more participation from our customers.
Tell us about yourself
My mother put a camera in my hand when I first started university. The creative freedom and flexibility of the industry, along with my business degree, allowed me to blend the two together and build a career. The fuel that is still in the business is all thanks to my family and friends, who supported me in the middle of the pandemic and continued to push me to grow the business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been shooting destination weddings with some of my mentors.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As opposed to a nine-to-five, running your own business takes time and discipline. It can go through your whole life out of balance. You end up working later hours, weekends, and holidays which can be hard on yourself and those around you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure it is something you enjoy doing. If you can turn a hobby or a passion into a business, then you are already on the right track.
- Networking is your best marketing and advertising tool. Create relationships with people who align with your vision and find yourself some mentors. For me, that has been the number one thing that has kept my business afloat.
- Don't just chase the dollar. It will burn you out. Make sure you are still enjoying the craft. For myself, I found that last year I did not photograph too many passion projects. It was all work, and that kills the flame of the business!
