Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julia Egorova, owner and creator of Flowers & Flowers, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The idea to create Flowers & Flowers appeared after many attempts of finding affordable designer bouquets in Toronto for sending them to my friends and relatives. Unfortunately, the flower arrangements I found were either exquisite and too expensive or at an affordable price but not nice enough. Therefore, my business idea was to create a new niche in Toronto's floral market of affordable bouquets with high-quality designs. You won't find flower arrangements in our store with a price above $100, and if you live in downtown Toronto, you will get free delivery.

I believe that designer flower arrangements can bring significant positive changes to everybody's life. They are a natural sip of fresh air in the middle of a big city. Our goal is that more people can afford this experience.

Tell us about yourself

I turned into a floral designer in 2018. Having an engineering background, I always had a desire to bring more art and creativity into my daily routine. It has been usual for me to create a beautiful environment in my family's and friends' homes using decorative interior elements and natural flowers.

Also, my biggest hobby is photography of nature. I feel that especially the beauty of nature motivates me to invent new styles of floral arrangements and new mixes of flower colours.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As I feel it right now, my biggest accomplishment is that my idea impacts people's lives. Every week, I receive kind and thankful words from my clients, and this helped me to understand that the business which I run is important and is a means of sharing love, smiles, and positive energy with my customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The further my business develops, the more minor barriers I explore. Being a woman is one of them, but, which is more important, it is not that easy to handle all the business aspects at once, especially alone. It is very important to have a friend by your side who will be able to give you proper advice or just tell you encouraging words. In my case, my husband gave me significant help and support, so together, we were able to solve tiny and huge problems at the initial stage.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be afraid and do it whatever it takes.
  2. Feel confident.
  3. Move forward and learn new things.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I want to give everyone a couple of supportive words. To those who just started thinking about running a business or to those who have already started it. There will be many questions and barriers today and in the future, but it is worth solving them. One day, you will look back and see that so many great significant changes happened in your life, and you can be proud of yourself!
