Manifest Abundance - Flowdreaming
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Summer McStravick, Owner and CEO of Flowdreaming, Inc., located in Encinitas, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Flowdreaming teaches emotional health and wellness using a mindfulness practice that incorporates emotion, daydreaming, and the psychological state called "flow." Many people use the technique of Flowdreaming for healing, personal growth, and manifesting.
Tell us about yourself
I began sharing this technique in 2004 and have since taught over 180,000 people how to Flowdream. I stay motivated by teaching live courses and working one-on-one with people all over the world. In addition, I have over 200 recorded audio Flowdreams and courses that people use. I'm constantly inspired to find more ways to use this powerful technique.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Probably having taken an "obscure" idea or practice and grown a whole company around it. Flowdreamig isn't a technique everyone has already heard of (like pilates or reiki)—you have to explain what it DOES and then explain what it is.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Wearing so many hats. Many business owners are marketers at heart who're just looking for a good product to market. Then there are the creators/product developers who have to learn to market. Product-driven entrepreneurs feel torn all the time since they know they have to spend 90% of their time on sales and marketing...not the product or service.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't get swept up in "scaling." Company sizes are unique to your personality. Hearing "scale" as a mantra discounts entrepreneurs who prefer not having employees or who prefer closer relationships with their consumers.
- Apps and social media trends come and go pretty fast. If you jump in every "social media boat" or app that comes along, you get diluted...and half sink anyway. The trick is to know you're gambling whenever you step into a new boat.
- Unless you have start-up capital and investors, then plan to build slowly but steadily. You can accomplish a lot as a side hustle before your idea outgrows its side-hustle status.
