Flow Yoga Adventures - Suzanne Hauserman
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Suzanne Hauserman, Owner of Flow Yoga Adventures, located in Golden, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We host domestic and international Wellness Retreats focused on mindful travel, cultural experiences, healthy eating, and active vacations for men and women.
Tell us about yourself
I traveled a lot as a kid with my family, sometimes for a month at a time, and in college, I went around the world just to solidify my love of travel. After opening my Yoga Studio in Golden 8 years ago, I knew it was time to offer retreats and begin my own traveling company. Since then, we've added amazing destinations and continue to push the envelope of where to go next. On each trip, I'm more and more motivated by the people that join me. They are just as passionate about getting a little uncomfortable, wanting to learn and grow and be mindful conscious people on our earth.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment to date is leading five trips last year, what a dream come true for this traveler! We made it through the pandemic with our clients being okay with the rescheduling, and last year was our year to get all caught up and see the world as it begins to open up again.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being an owner is the constant work. If I'm not leading classes, I'm working on schedules, itineraries, social media reels and posts, and checking in with clients... It's never-ending. Good thing I love it!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take a few retreats yourself and see what you love/don't like and how you'd do it differently. You'll hone what your niche and offerings will be.
- Work with great people who have the same mindset and mission.
- Be careful of places that won't work with you on deposits and rescheduling. That fine print can get wicked, so know what you're signing up for. Plan for a sold-out retreat, but be prepared for what a lower-attended retreat might look like so you're not losing your investment.
