Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina Barkley, co-founder of Fleurs de Villes, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Fleurs de Villes produces luxury flower shows all over the world. We pop up in public spaces and bring flowers to the people!

Tell us about yourself

I'm quite sure we have the best job in the world....working with flowers and bringing such joy to millions of people. My Co-Founder, Karen Marshall, and I were both working in Marketing, Event, and related industries when we realized our love of flowers could be developed into something extraordinary. What started as a seed of an idea has grown into a business for which we have big plans.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The greatest accomplishment is to see our audiences devour and be so moved by our installations. It's one of our most rewarding experiences....to be at a show and talk to our guests. Almost equally as exciting is seeing how many people want to join our team when we hire.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is honing the opportunities down so you don't bite off more than you can chew. It can be very intoxicating to be popular, but it's really important to stay focused on the path and not to try to spread yourself too thin.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get an accountant and get advice from them to set things up properly before you think you need it.
  2. Dream big and then make a plan. What excites you will drive you.
  3. Find good people that share your work ethic that you like to do or who are good at things you aren't.
