Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bo Bland, CEO and Creator of Fit Focused Ready, located in Annapolis, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Fit Focused Ready is a mind and body strengthening system. Designed to increase health, fitness, and mental strength as one. The reason behind joining the three is that if an individual is ever going to be successful, their mental strength and mindset must be as strong as possible. Letting health and fitness build the foundation for a stronger mindset. Then from that strong foundation, you let mental strength drive progress towards the goal or goals.

Our customers range from individuals struggling with weight loss to young entrepreneurs. These are people who can understand the advantages of a stronger mindset and the importance of health and fitness.

Tell us about yourself

Everything started for me back in 2009 when I was an unhealthy 28-year-old smoker who was lost in life. One night a friend challenged me to a triathlon, and I agreed to do it, and that one event sent me down a path where I would never be the same. Fast forward a few years, and I had become an ultra-runner and an Ironman triathlete. With this new drive, I was able to completely turned my life around. I found a passion for entrepreneurship, health, fitness, and mental strength. So, I became a running coach, personal trainer, and fitness author. In 2021, I started Fit Focused Ready to teach people the power of health, fitness, and mental strength. I do this by teaching them the exact tools I used to go from an unhealthy, undriven person to a driven ultra-runner, Ironman triathlete, and fitness entrepreneur.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd say my biggest accomplishment as an entrepreneur/business owner is actually starting. There were plenty of reasons why I should have just taken the safe road and stayed as an employee. But I knew I would never be truly happy if I did not pursue this passion. So, I made the leap of faith, and here I am.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I find that one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is complete ownership. You, as the business owner, must own all mistakes and failures. While at the same time finding solutions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The number one thing I would say to a future business owner is to start. You will never know what you are capable of until you try. My next piece of advice is to do your homework. Meaning, never jump into anything blindly. Learn everything you can, and dig as deep as you have to before you take that leap.

My last tip or suggestion is to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. A lot of the time, success comes when you step out of your comfort zone and do the things you are afraid of—most of the time, that fear comes from the fear of being judged or looking like a failure. You will need to cast those fears aside and take the step forward that you have been avoiding.
