Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emmanuella Grace, Founder of Find Your Voice, located in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Find Your Voice is a professional development, coaching, and training organization specializing in creating connections through communication for leaders, teams, and individuals.
Tell us about yourself
As a professional singer, I had the insight that 100% of the population has a voice. Still, only a few people felt confident using it, so I opened the doors of my vocal coaching studio to non-musicians. While we were focused on teaching the voice, we noticed that our clients' representatives were becoming more substantial in other parts of their lives.
They told us about increased fitness and well-being, better relationships, and, most notably, career advances. We realized that there was more to communicating than training the voice. We started integrating research-based psychology and anatomy principles into our coaching, exploring body language, word choices, and negotiation strategies.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Find Your Voice started as a passion project. Coaching in the attic of an old tea factory in the financial district of London, I began training people that wouldn't usually have access to the training we have as singers to connect us with our audience of senior executives, bankers, doctors, accountants, and footballers.
Teaching the skills I learned during my decades of training as an artist helps people find their voice, gives me a sense of purpose, and is the most rewarding work I can imagine doing.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
There are only so many hours in the day, so finding a way to reach as many people as possible is a constant challenge. We want to help as many people as possible feel free to express themselves when it matters most, whether in the kitchen, the classroom, or the boardroom.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know what your core values are and stick to them.
- Have firm boundaries. Sometimes, saying no will be the most important word you say that day.
- Seek out other leaders, in real life, in TedTalks, and in books, to learn from and be inspired by.
