Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Dupuis, Founder of Find Clarity Here, located in White Plains, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Productivity & Leadership Coach. I work with recently promoted managers and leaders, small business owners of teams of 10 or fewer, and regular 9-to-5ers who are looking to find a deeper drive, focus, and ambition in the work that they do. Whether it is finding time for self-care, overcoming imposter syndrome, or developing a sales team, I help get people on a path to success as they define it.
Tell us about yourself
I was an internal coach at Fortune 500 companies for about 8 years. During that time, I realized that I loved coaching, problem-solving, and brainstorming with successful individuals. I wanted to own the whole coaching process, which inspired me to get certified in coaching and start my own coaching business where I could explore new styles of coaching and support clients in a way that I felt was most challenging and encouraging. I am motivated every day to partner with clients to take small steps towards much larger goals. Maybe it is a promotion, a raise, starting a new career, finding time for themselves, or increasing confidence. My sessions serve as an outlet for people, a safe space to explore and leave feeling like, "I got this!"
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was becoming a business owner, haha. I have been in a corporate job since I started working. I always had a boss, coworkers, a set number of vacation days, etc. To jump ship and go out on my own was terrifying, but I put a lot of careful planning into each and every step to set myself up to take the leap. It made it no less scary, but it made me feel more confident that starting my own business was the smartest decision I could make.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The emotions. You can feel like you are living your true purpose and your business is your calling... and you can second guess every decision and feel like a failure and a fool, all within the span of 45 minutes. Maintaining composure during those times when you are questioning yourself and holding onto those moments of confidence and joy is paramount to keeping a steady gaze on your direction forward.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Think unrealistically—set huge crazy goals, so you know what you are striving towards.
- Surround yourself with people who are going to give you constructive feedback, support, and encouraging energy—leave the rest.
- Believe in what you are doing, otherwise, no one else will.
